Leadership through work force development and distributed responsibilities.
Leading Teaching and Learning
As a deputy principal in a large primary school I was required to have a intimate understanding of the school plan and priotites for teaching and learning. I performance managed a third of the teaching and education support staff in their implementation of the curriculum and school plan.
In my formal and informal meetins with the teachers I managed I encouraged them to reflect on their teaching practice particularly with regard to meeting the needs of gifted and talented students and students with difficulties with learning. I collaborated with them in finding innovative appoaches to effectively teach and assess a broard range of abilities.
- Defore During and After Activities
- Tic Tac Toe classroom activites and assigments
- Tiered lessons and assessments
In the role of Learning Support Coordinatior at the same primary school I used obersavitions and data collected from the teacher, the school psychologist and NAPLAN to inform an intervention strategy to address the student's learning needs.
- Attendance plans maintaining close contact with the parents
- Detailed behaviour plans with postive rewards and negative consequence
- Letters and Sounds Program
- Alpha to Omega
- Toe by Toe
- Florida Just Read
Working with school leaders as a support teacher in learning difficulties I supported leaders in devloping a whole school approach to literacy and numeracy. This process to 1-2 years as teachers required time to assess the alternatives and committ to a program that would suit the school context.
