Leading Teaching and Learning


Deputy Principal, Arbor Grove Primary School
Developed and delivered professional learning about specific learning difficulties and the concept of Universal Design in Education.


Modelled inclusive instruction strategies that teachers could experience and then use in the classroom.


Mentored teachers in clarifying the intended learning outcomes and how to modify them for students with diverse learning needs.


Support Teacher, Learning Difficulties, Centre for Inclusive Schooling
Supported teachers in developing assessments that measured a learning outcome that was masked when using written test procedures.


Consulted with school leaders in developing a whole school approach teaching students with learning delays and specific learning difficulties.


Co-presented professional learning about differentiating the curriculum


Supported the development of an online forum about specific learning difficulties


Supported key staff in analysing NAPLAN data and standardized test and developing appropriate intervention


Specialist Teacher (registered with the Dyslexia Speld Foundation WA)
Working collaboratively with classroom teachers as a private specialist teacher involved careful negotiation of learning remediation and accommodation.


Designing the learning program involved analysing complex data from various diagnostic tests. The program was highly structured and explicitly taught literacy and numeracy skills.


Improvement in learning was reported to parents, school and the Dyslexia Speld Foundation. Some of the students were “Twice Exceptional” in that they were highly intelligent and gifted on one or more areas but also had a learning difficulty.


Science Teacher, Corpus Christi College
Developed and delivered extensions science programs for lower school secondary students. In this extension program students worked collaboratively with scientists at Murdoch University.


Developed and delivered a modified program in science for students with a learning difficulty using explicit teaching of science concepts and teaching “how to learn” strategies.




School Developing Self and Others

Deputy Principal, Arbor Grove Primary
Collaborating with class teachers, support staff, school administration, district staff and parents to improve attendance for students with long term chronic attendance problems.


Development and documentation of school process to monitor and address attendance.


Developed attendance targets, resourced strategies and finance for 2011 to ensure Arbor Grove PS is meeting department requirements with Attendance. I negotiated with resistant teachers and parents to negotiate better compliance.


Ensure students learning needs were being met via the SAER Committee and regular review of IEPs and other assessment data.



Leading Improvement, Innovation and Change


Deputy Principal, Arbor Grove Primary
Managing change with regard to school attendance. I kept teachers informed about the requirements for attendance and supported them in communicating with parents.


Supported teachers in performance management using an approached based on working from their strengths to build capacity.


Managing change with regard to ICT skills and web site development. I taught and coached visiting teachers in providing support to classroom teachers online as an addition to their face to face support.


Engaging and Working with the Community

Supporting student with a variety of learning needs involved collaborating with the education support coordinator, school psychologist, parents and students to design and deliver IEPs that are achievable, meaningful and allowed full inclusion in a primary setting.



Schooling Leading the Management of the School

Supported the LSC in purchasing resources to support students with specific learning difficulties and disabilities.
Higher duties where I have to coordinate the collating, quality assure and upload resources into the website One Classroom (www.det.wa.edu.au/oneclassroom/ ). I have had to plan the process, set outcomes and ensure the resources are evidence based and copyright compliant. I also initiated the development of the Statewide Specialist Services website (www.det.wa.edu.au/statewidespecialistservices/ )

Managed five cost centres – ICT, student leadership, classroom stationary, school security and attendance.
